M.Tech at IIT Hyderabad: Electrical Engineering
The Department offers four two-year M.Tech specialisations, each grounded in a distinct research stream, plus a 3-year Research Assistantship (RA) variant in three of the four streams. All programmes follow a coursework-plus-thesis structure. The curricula listed here are applicable from August 2025 onwards.
2-Year M.Tech
Teaching Assistantship / Self-Sponsored
Semesters I and II are devoted to core and elective courses, and Semesters III–IV to thesis research.
Communications, Signal Processing & Learning
Covers digital communications, signal processing, machine learning, and information theory, with flexible elective baskets across theory, SP&L, and communications.
Power Electronics & Power Systems
Focuses on power converter design, power system analysis and dynamics, electric machines, and labs in power electronics and power systems.
Systems & Control Engineering
Covers state-space methods, optimal control, convex optimisation, and estimation, with AI/ML electives and an advanced control lab.
Microelectronics & VLSI
Covers semiconductor devices, VLSI technology, analog and digital IC design, and circuit characterisation, with a rich elective basket in nanoelectronics and ML hardware.
Research Assistantship
3-Year M.Tech (RA)
A 3-year M.Tech programme with Research Assistantship (RA), with extended emphasis on research and thesis, is also offered by the Department of Electrical Engineering.
CSPL (RA)
3-year programme, 52 credits: department core, elective baskets, and a 24-credit thesis.
PEPS (RA)
3-year programme, 50 credits, with separate August-entry and January-entry sequencing.
Micro & VLSI (RA)
3-year programme, 52 credits: department core, electives, and a 24-credit thesis.
