Programmes
Electrical Engineering at IIT Hyderabad
The Department of Electrical Engineering offers a rich set of undergraduate pathways, catering to students at different entry points and with varied academic goals. Whether you are a core EE student, an Engineering Science student branching into EE, or a student from another department pursuing a double major or minor, the curriculum is designed to give you a rigorous foundation alongside flexibility to specialise.
B.Tech in Electrical Engineering
The flagship four-year programme covering circuits, signals, electronics, power, control, and communications — with electives across all EE research streams.
B.Tech EE (IC Design & Technology)
The ICDT variant integrates coursework from a partner department, enabling students to build a dual-disciplinary skill set within the standard B.Tech duration.
Engineering Science → EE
ES students who opt for Electrical Engineering follow a tailored transition plan that bridges their first-year foundation courses with the core EE curriculum.

Engineering Science (ES) Students Opting for Electrical Engineering (EE)
ES students opting Dept. of EE after 2 years should complete 46 credits from the Dept. of EE, in the 3rd and 4th years, which are not taken as a part of the regular ES curriculum in the first two years.
At most 20 credits can be obtained from EE 1, 2 or 3 level courses.
At least 26 credits should be obtained from EE 4 or higher level courses (department electives).
Upto 6 credits of department electives can be optionally converted to semester-long internship, in the 6th semester.
Upto 6 credits of department electives can be optionally converted to independent projects during the 7th and 8th semesters.
All the courses have to be chosen so that the prerequisites are satisfied.
Double Major Pathway
Double Majors in Electrical Engineering
A student opting for a double major in the Dept. of EE should obtain 24 credits as listed in the following Table. These 24 credits should be over and above any EE credits that he/she has obtained as a part of the parent department curriculum.
If the student has already taken any of the compulsory courses as a part of his/her parent department curriculum, he/she can take courses for the equivalent credits from the basket consisting of all departmental core and stream core courses, provided the prerequisite courses are credited already.
Double Major students should not take Circuits and Network Analysis, Digital Systems and Signals and Systems as they overlap with compulsory courses.
All the courses have to be chosen so that the prerequisites are satisfied.

Minor Pathway
Minors in Electrical Engineering
A student opting for minors in the Dept. of EE should obtain 12 credits as listed in the following Table. These 12 credits should be over and above any EE credits that he/she has obtained as a part of the parent department curriculum.
If the student has already taken any of the compulsory courses as a part of his/her parent department curriculum, he/she can take courses for the equivalent credits from the basket consisting of all departmental/stream core courses, provided the prerequisite courses are credited already.
Minor students should not take Circuits and Network Analysis, Digital Systems and Signals and Systems as they overlap with compulsory courses.
