Advertisement For Ph.D. Admission Under Visvesvaraya Ph.D. Scheme For Electronics & IT – Phase-II @ IIT Hyderabad, Department of Electrical Engineering

Applications are invited from eligible and highly motivated candidates for admission to the Full-Time Ph.D. Programme in Electrical Engineering under the Visvesvaraya Ph.D. Scheme for Electronics & IT – Phase-II, sponsored by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, for the Academic Year 2026–27.

The selected scholars will work on research problems in emerging areas aligned with the objectives of the Visvesvaraya Ph.D. Scheme, particularly in Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM), Information Technology/IT Enabled Services (IT/ITES), semiconductor technologies, embedded systems, communication technologies, artificial intelligence, power electronics and related interdisciplinary areas.

2. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Educational Qualification

Candidates must possess a Master's degree such as:

• M.E./M.Tech./M.S. or equivalent degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering, Information Technology, Instrumentation Engineering or a closely related discipline; OR
• An equivalent qualification in an appropriate area relevant or related disciplines from a recognised institute with minimum 70% Marks or 7.0 CGPA + Valid GATE Score to the proposed research topic.

3. FELLOWSHIP / FINANCIAL SUPPORT

Selected full-time Ph.D. scholars under the Visvesvaraya Ph.D. Scheme may receive financial support as per the prevailing MeitY guidelines:

• 46,250/- per month during the 1st and 2nd years.
• 52,500/- per month during the 3rd to 5th years.
• Research Contingency Grant of 1,20,000/- per year per full-time Ph.D. scholar.
• Reimbursement of rent/HRA, wherever admissible, as per applicable Government of India/MeitY norms.
• Support for participation in eligible international conferences, subject to scheme guidelines and availability.
• Support for eligible laboratory visits abroad, subject to selection and approval under the scheme.
• Other benefits shall be governed by the latest Visvesvaraya Ph.D. Scheme Phase-II Terms & Conditions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

The maximum fellowship support period shall be governed by the prevailing scheme guidelines.

5. SELECTION PROCEDURE

Candidates will be shortlisted based on their academic record/achievements, and only shortlisted candidates will be intimated via e-mail for an interview with the selection committee.

Selection committee’s decision would be final.

Please note that merely meeting the minimum criteria does not guarantee a call for an interview.

The selected candidate will be encouraged to register for the PhD program at IIT Hyderabad as per the institute's norms.
