Call for Applications: Post Doctoral Fellowship (PDF) under the Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme

Applications are invited from Indian citizens with a proven academic record, including peer-reviewed publications and recognitions, for the Post Doctoral Fellowship under the Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme.

Eligibility

  • The applicant should be an Indian citizen.
  • The applicant must have obtained a PhD degree from a recognized University with first class (in terms of grades, etc.) in all preceding levels and a good academic record throughout.
  • The PhD must have been completed within the past 5 years on the last date of submission of application.
  • Applicants should not have completed their PhD at IIT Hyderabad, the host institution.
  • The upper age limit is 40 years on the date of submission of the application.
  • Applicants currently in regular employment will not be considered. Scientists or researchers with temporary positions in academia or research institutions will be considered, but they will be required to relinquish their current roles if selected.
  • Candidates who have already availed the PDF under the scheme are not eligible.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who have active industry linkages and whose research proposal is directed towards industry-specific problems.
  • Just fulfilling the minimum eligibility criteria does not entitle a candidate to be selected.
  • The PhD of the applicant must be in or related to one of the following areas (candidates with research experience in more than one of these areas will be preferred): Wireless Communication and Networking, Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, Optimization & Resource allocation, Multiple Access Techniques, Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS), Space-Air-Ground Integrated Network (SAGIN).

Nature and Duration

The fellowship is a full-time, non-transferable, temporary position tenable in India only. It is valid for 1 year. Any extension beyond one year is not admissible under the scheme. The research will be carried out under a Mentor/Guide identified by the institution.

Financial Support

  • Fellowship: ₹1,08,393 per month, transferred directly to the awardee's bank account by PhD Cell, DIC.
  • Contingency Grant: ₹1,00,000 per year (pro-rata, e.g. ₹25,000 per quarter), restricted to minor equipment, consumables and research-related items.
  • Travel support up to ₹2.10 lakhs, admissible only for (a) visa fee and one-time travel for an overseas applicant returning to India to take up the fellowship, and (b) participation in Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme events on invitation from PhD Cell.

Responsibilities of the Awardee

  • Carry out the proposed research and submit monthly progress reports in the format specified by PhD Cell.
  • Participate in scheme activities assigned by PhD Cell, such as evaluation and mentoring of PhD candidates, collaborative research, and workshops and events.
  • Report publications, patents, start-ups and other significant achievements to PhD Cell.
  • Acknowledge the scheme in all publications, achievements and recognitions.
  • Not receive any other fellowship during the award period. Taking up any full- or part-time assignment will lead to discontinuation of the award.

Application Should Include

  • Research proposal defining clear objectives, outcomes, deliverables and timelines.
  • CV with list of peer-reviewed publications and recognitions.
  • PhD degree certificate / provisional certificate showing date of completion.
  • Mark sheets / grade cards for all preceding degrees (showing first class).
  • Proof of age and Indian citizenship.
  • Details of industry linkages, if any.
