This page contains information relevant to the MTech (RA/self-sponsored) admission process for the candidates shortlisted for the written test.

Please regularly visit the EE web page of the Department of Electrical Engineering for updates.

Important Note

The call for the written test and interview process does not guarantee you admission in the MTech programs at IIT Hyderabad. In case you fail to attend the written test and/or interview, it will be presumed that you are not interested in this program and your candidature will be treated as "cancelled". No further correspondence will be entertained in this regard.

Things To Do

Overview of the Admission Process

The Department of Electrical Engineering will conduct the written tests and interviews for MTech RA/Self-sponsored candidates on 24th and 25th June 2026 in offline mode at the IIT Hyderabad campus:

  • Written tests on 24th June (forenoon)
  • Interviews on 24th June (after results of written test) and 25th June (all day)

Please plan to spend 24th and 25th June for the admissions process. If interviews get delayed, please be ready for 26th June as a reserve day.

On-campus accommodation options are available. Please see below in this page for details.

Syllabus

The syllabus for the written test and interview is available in the EE MTech admissions brochure.

Reporting

The candidates must report to the venue (EE Seminar Hall, EE Building, IIT Hyderabad) at 8:15 AM on 24th June 2026. Please carry a photo identity card (issued by the government) for identity verification. Please also carry certificates relevant to your MTech application.

The room for the written test will be intimated to you at the time of reporting.

Written Tests

Candidates shortlisted for MVLSI will give the exam first from 8:45 AM – 9:45 AM. Candidates shortlisted for other specializations will give the exam from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM. More details will be posted at the EE Seminar Hall on 24th June.

Information about the shortlist (for written test) is available in the EE Web page (MTech RA, MTech-SS).

We recommend carrying a blue ballpoint pen, a transparent water bottle, and a scientific calculator for the written tests. No phones, electronic devices, smart watches, etc. are allowed during the written tests. Please ensure that your phones are in silent mode and are kept away from your person (preferably inside your bag) during the test.

Lunch Break

The break will be approximately between 12:30 PM and 1:30 PM. Candidates can have lunch (on payment basis, using UPI payment) from the student's mess. There are other food options available near the new hostel blocks (a Udipi-style food stall, and a pizzeria) and near the "wet canteen" area (near "old hostel blocks").

Interviews

Candidates will be shortlisted for the interviews based on their performance in the written test. The shortlists will be prepared for each specialization stream independently. The results of the written test will be made available online on the EE Web page and offline near the EE Seminar Hall.

The schedule and the venue of the interviews will be announced as soon as the written tests are evaluated.

Candidates shortlisted under multiple specializations must attend the interview for each specialization separately. Please note that each specialization might require you to meet more than one interview panel.

Accommodation

A limited number of rooms are available on campus (in student hostels and in the guesthouse) for the duration of the written test and interviews, i.e., from the night of 23rd June to 26th June. Candidates are not allowed to stay back on campus beyond this duration. Once you express your interest on the RSVP form for hostel accommodation, you will be shared with a form to pre-book the hostel on payment basis. Allocation is on a first come first serve basis.

Please note that the candidates will be responsible for their belongings and their well-being during their stay for the admissions process. Smoking and consumption of alcohol are strictly prohibited throughout the campus.
