Important Note

The call for the interview process does not guarantee you admission in the Ph.D. program at IIT Hyderabad. In case you fail to attend the interview it will be presumed that you are not interested in this program and your candidature will be treated as “cancelled”. No further correspondence will be entertained in this regard.
Things To Do
- Carefully read the instructions and information provided in this page, in the EE PhD Admissions page as well as the PhD admissions brochure given in the EE PhD Admissions page.
- Ensure that you receive the call letter for PhD admissions interview via email. Please read the instructions given in the call letter.
- Using the link given in the call letter indicate your willingness to participate in the interview on or before 18 Nov.
- In case you need accommodation in the students hostel, make advance payment for hostel accommodation charges by 18 Nov. The payment link will be available in the call letter.
- If you need accommodation at the IIT Hyderabad guesthouse, please get in touch with the guesthouse reception and make a booking on or before 18 Nov. Please note that guesthouse accommodation is available only till the morning of 25 Nov. The contact details of the reception desk will be available in the call letter.
Overview of the Admission Process
The Department of Electrical Engineering will conduct the interviews for PhD candidates on 24 and 25 Nov 2025 in offline mode in IIT Hyderabad campus. Each candidate is assigned one of these two days for the interviews, and the candidates are expected to spend the entirety of the assigned day at the EE Department for the interview process. There will be no written test.

Reporting
The candidates must report to the venue (Department of Electrical Engineering, Ground Floor of EECS Building, IIT Hyderabad) at 8:45am on the assigned interview date. Please carry a original photo identity card (issued by the government) for identity verification. Please also carry photocopies of all academic certificates relevant to your PhD application (such as grade cards, and degree certificates).
Interviews
The interviews are scheduled on 24 Nov and 25 Nov 2025. The interview time slot assigned for each candidate will be informed at the time of reporting. Candidates shortlisted under multiple specializations must attend the interview for each specialization separately. Please note that each specialization might require you to meet more than one interview panel.
Lunch Break
The break will be approximately between 12:30pm and 2:30pm. Candidates can have lunch (on payment basis, using UPI payment) from the students mess. There are other food options available near the new mess/new hostel blocks and also near the "wet canteen" area (near "old hostel blocks").
Accommodation
A limited number of rooms are available on campus (in student hostels and in the guesthouse) for the duration of the PhD interviews, i.e., from the night of 23 Nov to 25 Nov only. Candidates are not allowed to stay back on campus beyond this duration.
Please note that the candidates will be responsible for their belongings and their well-being during their stay for the admissions process. Smoking and consumption of alcohol are strictly prohibited throughout the campus. Please note that IIT Hyderabad is not responsible for the safety of your personal items.
Hostel Accommodation
A limited number of hostel rooms are available. The accommodation charges for the hostel room are Rs. 350 per day. This charge is non-refundable and must be paid in advance through online payment on or before 18 Nov. The link for the payment will be shared with the shortlisted candidates in the call letter.
You must show a copy of the interview call letter and a valid photo ID card during check-in. Rooms might be alloted on twin-sharing basis to candidates. The hostel room will contain mattress, bedsheet, pillow, pillow cover (and curtains in the case of ladies hostel room), bucket/mug in the common washroom, and watercoolers for drinking water. All the items provided by the Hostel Office must be returned at the time of checkout. Please bring a lock and keys (in duplicate) to secure your allotted hostel room.
Please note that the hostel accommodation charges do NOT include food charges. Breakfast, lunch and dinner can be had at the students mess on payment (using UPI payment) directly to the caterer at the mess.
Hostel accommodation is not available for parents, family or friends. For such accommodation options please book your stay at the guesthouse.
Guesthouse Accommodation
A limited number of rooms are available in the International Guesthouse (IGH) on payment basis. The payment must be made directly at IGH during check-out. To reserve the room, you must contact IGH (contact details will be shared via the call letter) on or before 18 Nov. Please mention the purpose of your visit while booking the room: "EE PhD Admissions". Please also present the interview call letter when requested at the IGH. Room allotment details will be provided at the Guest House Reception desk which is located at the Ground Floor, IGH.
The tariff per day (exlcuding the 5 percent GST) for the "Standard Room" is Rs 1,000 (per person) under twin-sharing (with another visitor) and Rs 1,500 for single occupancy. You can let the guesthouse reception know if you are open to sharing your room with another candidate. The charges are inclusive of complimentary breakfast for a 24 hour stay. Lunch and dinner can be arranged at the guesthouse on the request of the guest. However, the charges for the same will have to be paid by the guest in addition to the room rent. The order for lunch or dinner should be placed at least an hour in advance of the lunch/dinner time. Order once placed will not be allowed to be cancelled.
Weather
Outside of the two summer months - April and May - Hyderabad enjoys a pleasant climate. November is pleasant with relatively cool temperatures throughout the day. You might find the weather dry, please keep yourself hydrated throughout your stay at Hyderabad.
About the Campus
The IIT Hyderabad campus is spread over approximately 600 acres close to Sangareddy town. Several of the campus buildings and facilities carry a unique architectural style. We highly recommend taking a tour of the campus at your leisure, especially the academic zone (including the lecture hall complex and the knowledge resource center) and the sports and cultural center.
