General Instructions
Thank you for applying to the Department of EE, IIT Hyderabad, for a faculty position.
Your application will undergo departmental screening involving multiple rounds (conducted online whenever interaction is necessary).ROUND-0: Preliminary screening
Applications will be screened in two steps.
[Step A]
Applications that meet certain minimum requirements, related to qualifications, publications and other advertised criteria, will be considered for Step B.
[Step B]
Teaching and research statements submitted by the applicant will be assessed by the department on various points including the following.
The teaching statement is expected to- outline the applicant’s pedagogical philosophy.
- include current departmental courses that the applicant will be willing to teach.
- furnish glimpses of new courses (not in current IITH curriculum) that the applicant proposes to introduce.

- outline the support required from IITH to execute the research plan.
Applications shortlisted at this stage will be considered for ROUND-1.
ROUND-1: Department-level teaching demonstration and research video
This round involves evaluation by the EE department and consists of two parallel steps.
[Step A]
You will be invited for a teaching demonstration. For this, we advise you to pick a topic suitable for second-year undergraduate students. When asked, you should inform us about it. Please prepare for this step even before you are contacted in order to avoid unnecessary time pressure.
You are requested to teach either on a black/green/white board in reasonable focus of your camera, or use tab/pad/equivalent and stylus/digital pen. In other words, you will be expected to write/scribble in real time as you teach. We discourage presenting previously prepared work such as powerpoint/beamer presentations or similar.
You will be allotted a 45-min slot for this purpose. Notionally, please be ready to cover 25-min worth of material at an unhurried pace and leave about 20 mins for interactions. However, please be prepared to be interrupted often and engage in a sequence of back-and-forth ideas, possibly delving deep.
[Step B]
In parallel, you will need to record a 20-min research presentation video (which you will need to upload as instructed). Please prepare for this step even before you are contacted in order to avoid unnecessary time pressure.
ROUND-2: Department-level research presentation and interaction
Based on your performance in ROUND-1 (Steps A and B), you may be invited to a 45-min research interaction session involving Q&A and elaboration of your research. Notionally, please be ready with a 30-min talk followed by 15-minute Q&A. Preferably, emphasize your most important research contribution at this stage, bringing out the essence and importance of it. At the same time, even though you should not present all of those, please bring the full deck of your research slides to potentially facilitate Q&A. Please prepare for this step even before you are contacted in order to avoid unnecessary time pressure.
NEXT STEP: Institute-level selection process
If your application qualifies through the multi-round departmental screening, your candidature will be recommended by the Department of EE to the Dean, Faculty Affairs, IITH, for possible interview at the institute level.
Candidates invited by the Dean for an interview will be given fresh instructions by the Dean’s office on further processes, some of which may be similar to departmental screening in some aspects. However, candidates are advised to pay close attention to those instructions, if applicable, as decisions at this level are made by institute authorities.
RECAPITULATION
For departmental screening, you need to prepare the following (required at different stages and rounds).
- A 25-minute teaching demonstration (live) on a second-year undergraduate topic with 20-minute Q&A.
- A 20-min research presentation to be recorded and uploaded.
- A 30-min research talk to be delivered live, preferably, emphasizing your most important research contribution, followed by 15-minute Q&A.
In order to avoid unnecessary time pressure, please prepare early and prepare well, even before you are contacted. Please be aware that you may have limited lead time once the process begins.
With warm regards,Faculty Search Committee, EE
